ELMS - 11/04/2015
On the opening lap a spinning no34 AF Corse Nissan Oreca of Kirill Ladygin caused the no29 Pegasus Racing Morgan of Jonathan Coleman to take to the run off area in avoidance, which caused the Morgan to spear back across the track to make contact with Ladygin’s Oreca. This resulted in a short safety car period so the two cars could be snatched and return to the pits.
At the restart Albuquerque’s JOTA Sport Gibson briefly got ahead of the leading Greaves Motorsport Gibson of Gary Hirsch before the green flag but the Portuguese driver realised his mistake and dropped back allowing Hirsch back through. It took several more laps before the JOTA Sport car finally overtook Hirsch to take the lead of the race. The no46 Thiriet by TDS Racing Oreca of Pierre Thiriet was also in the mix battle for the lead of the race.
In LMP3 the two Team LNT Ginettas had to start at the back of the grid but Michael Simpson and Charlie Robertson had to battle their way through the traffic, with Robertson’s no3 Nissan powered car taking the lead by lap 10, with Simpson following his teammate. However Simpson’s Ginetta made an unscheduled stop with a mechanical problem.
In LMGTE the no81 AF Corse Ferrari of Rui Aguas was leading the class but as the first hour of the race advanced the Portuguese driver’s car was clipped by the no40 Krohn Racing Ligier, spinning the Ferrari into the gravel. The Lead was inherited by the no86 Gulf Racing Porsche of Phil Keen.
In GTC the lead was held by the no68 Massive Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage of Caspar Elgaard, ahead of the no63 AF Corse Ferrari of Ilya Melnikov.
