Construit en 1970 par Paul Ricard, le circuit qui porte son nom a accueilli 14 Grand Prix, 22 Bol d’Or et 12 Moto GP. Rénové totalement par Philippe Gurdjian au début des années 2000, le circuit est devenu une référence dans le Sport Auto, grâce notamment, à ses dégagements en asphalte remplaçant les bac à graviers.
Autrefois réservé pour le développement et les tests des équipes et constructeurs, le circuit a réouvert ses portes au public en 2009. Depuis 2008, et à l’exception de 2012, le circuit Paul Ricard a toujours accueilli l’ELMS en commençant par les Le Mans Series, puis Le Mans Endurance et enfin l’European Le Mans Series.
