Focus on...Scrutineering

Scrutineering is a mandatory step for all the cars that want to take part to a race. It is held generally 2 or 3 days before the race. Every part of the car is checked, especially the very important safety elements.  If this step is not respected the car can’t take part to the race.

Scrutineering allows the team to compare their measurements to those made with the official tools and by the technical staff.

Scrutineering is divided in 4 checkpoints:

• The weight-bridge, on which we weight every car in order to check if they conform to the regulations.
• Safety:  this is a key checkpoint as all the security elements are examined such as the belts, the lights, the extinguishers and the on-board cameras that are in the cockpit, so the technical staff have to check it is secured correctly in the car. 
• Electronic check: As indicated by the name, this checkpoint will control the entire electronic device in the car, such as the transponder that are used for the timing of every competitor.
• The car lift checkpoint allows the technical staff to check the underside of the car but also the bodywork.

The technical staff is distributed among the four different checkpoints. At the end of the scrutineering a final report is written in order to allow the cars to take part to the race.
