ELMS Championship Standings...After Monza

ELMS - 24/05/2017 - Jeff CARTER

After two races of the 2017 European Le Mans Series the race to the titles in the three classes is proving that this season it will be hard to predict who will be standing tall at the awards ceremony in Portugal.

In the LMP2 class it is the no22 G-Drive Racing Oreca-Gibson of Memo Rojas, Leo Roussel and Ryo Hirakawa. With a second place at Silverstone and a win at Monza the Russian flagged team is currently 10 points clear on 43 points with the Silverstone race winners, Filipe Albuquerque, Hugo de Sadeleer and Will Owen in the no32 United Autosports Ligier-Gibson on 33 points.  The American team could only manage to finish 6th in Monza.

With two third places to their credit the no49 High Class Racing Dallara is third on 30 points, with the no21 Dragonspeed Oreca in fourth on 20 points.

Two podiums – second in Silverstone and third in Monza – has put the no17 Ultimate Ligier Nissan of Francois Heriau, Jean-Baptiste Lahaye and Mattieu Lahaye at the top of the LMP3 class leader board with 33 points.  The French team are five points ahead of the no18 M.Racing-YMR Ligier of Alexandre Cougnaud, Antoine Jung and Romano Ricci, with the no3 United Autosports Ligier equal on points with 28, but classified in 3rd place courtesy of M.Racing-YMR’s second place in Monza.

Silverstone race winners John Falb and Sean Rayhall in the no2 United Autosports Ligier are fourth on 27 points, with Monza race winners Erwin Creed and Ricky Capo in fifth on 26 points.

In the LMGTE class the no90TF Sport trio of Salih Yoluc, Euan Hankey and Nicki Thiim have maintained their Silverstone lead after finishing second in Monza to add to their win and pole position at their home race in April.  JMW Motorsport have moved up to second place thanks to the win in Monza and Rob Smith and Jody Fannin are on 35 points, 9 behind the leading Aston Martin crew.

Andrew Howard, Darren Turner and Ross Gunn are on 30 points in the no99 Beechdean AMR Aston Martin thanks to the team’s two podium finishes a Silverstone and Monza.

The next race on the ELMS calendar is the 4 Hours of Red Bull Ring, which will take place in Austria on Sunday 23 July.
