The no46 Thiriet by TDS Racing Oreca Nissan of Pierre Thiriet setting the quickest time of the weekend so far with a 1m21.346 lap, 0.5 seconds faster than the quickest time in Free Practice 1.
The no21 Dragonspeed Oreca of Nicolas Lapierre finished the session just 0.026 seconds behind the no46 Oreca and 0.066s ahead of the no23 Panis Barthez Competition Ligier of 2014 ELMS Drivers’ Champion Paul Loup Chatin.
In LMP3 it was the no3 United Autosport Ligier of Wayne Boyd who led the way with a lap of 1m26.146, 0.5 seconds faster than the best time set in FP1. The British driver was 0.3 second ahead of the no6 360 Racing Ligier of Ross Kaiser and a further 0.032s ahead of the third fastest car in LMP3, the no16 Panis Barthez Comeptition Ligier of Simon Gachet.
The LMGTE field also saw similar improvements on the times set in Free Practice 1 with Matteo Cairoli in the no88 Proton Competition improving his best time by nearly 0.9 seconds with a lap of 1m27.992. The Italian finished the 90 minute session 0.335 seconds ahead of the no56 AT Racing Ferrari of Alessandro Pier Guidi and 0.873s ahead of the no51 AF Corse Ferrari of Marco Cioci.
During the session several cars were black flagged as a result of excessive breaches of track limits so the Race Director could explain to the drivers concerned the error of their ways.
Qualifying for the 4 Hours of Red Bull Ring will take place at 12h50 this afternoon, with the ten minute session for the LMGTE, followed by LMP3 and then LMP2 to decide the grid for tomorrow’s race.
