The Show for sure!

ELMS - 02/04/2008

One of the most exciting categories in the series has always been the GT1 class, closely contested by Corvette, Aston Martin, Lamborghini and Saleen. This year will be no different as the four manufacturers again vie for not only the title, but also an automatic entry to the 2009 Le Mans 24 hours by finishing in the top two in class at the end of the year.

Corvette's C6.R is a proven machine, both in terms of speed and reliability. Last year, though, it was beaten at Le Mans by Aston Martin, and the two manufacturers will face each other again this season. Luc Alphand Aventures headed the times at Paul Ricard, and will go to Barcelona expecting to continue that form.

Last year's champion team Oreca has stepped up to the “LM” P1 category, but the Saleen is now in the hands of the 2006 champions, Larbre Competition.

Lamborghini's Murcielago was another to exceed expectations at Paul Ricard. Russian Roman Rusinov is behind the IBP Spartak Racing team, run by Reiter Engineering, and he shares the driving with Peter Kox.

The Aston Martin DBR9 model is represented by Team Modena, which has been steadily improving race-by-race and, with Antonio Garcia and Tomas Enge behind the wheel, they will start as strong contenders for a closely contested crown.
