ELMS - 24/09/2011
The Estoril 6 Hours is the final round of the very exciting 2011 season. Patrick Peter, the director of Peter Auto, promoter of the Le Mans Series, thanked all the teams who have taken part in the Series in 2011, and all those who supported it over the past eight years. A new adventure begins in 2012.
“In 2012, we're starting a new adventure after the Le Mans Series has run for eight years. Next year's championship will be different to the one we know today,” said Peter in front of the teams and drivers present at Estoril. “I would like to thank all those who've been with us in this adventure, and we hope to see them again next year whether in the Le Mans Series or in the World Endurance Championship – or both!”
The first Le Mans Series took place in 2004 and consisted of four 1000-km races at Monza, Nürburgring, Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps. Audi Veloqx UK won all four races and the first of the German make's eight titles in LM P1. This weekend will see the final battle for the eighth title between the Pescarolo team and Rebellion Racing.
In 2012, the top category in the Le Mans Series will be LM P2, which should give rise to thrilling battles. A new category, GTC, will be added and will see the arrival of prestigious coupes guaranteeing full fields.
