ELMS - 11/04/2011
The Le Castellet 6 Hours, the first round of the 2011 Le Mans Series, was held in sunny weather and attracted a good crowd. 14 000 spectators flocked to see the first major European race of the season, and they were able to get close to the cars and drivers who were only too delighted to give them autographs during the official signing session.
In addition to the Le Mans Series race three other formulas held their opening event of the season in the Var: the F3 Euro Series, the Speed Series and the Porsche Matmut Carrera Cup, a popular series that is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
In a race that was full of surprises in which few teams were spared, French squad Pescarolo Racing scored a very popular win that marked living French legend Henri Pescarolo's return to endurance racing.
The next round, the 1000Km of Spa-Francorchamps, will take place in Belgium on Saturday 7th May. The second race counting for the Le Mans Series is also the second round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup. Three (Spa, Imola and Silverstone) of the seven rounds of the ILMC, now in its second season, will be held as part of the Le Mans Series, which promises no-holds-barred battles all through the field!
