ELMS - 02/04/2008
Ferrari teams had the upper hand in GT2 last season, but the latest Porsche 997 model 911 RSR demonstrated competitive speed and reliability at Sebring last month…so let the battle begin!
The Spyker Squadron team from Holland mounts a challenge with the improved C8 Laviolette model, and a welcome entry to the class is the Aston Martin Vantage V8 entered by James Watt Automotive.
Ferrari is represented by reigning champion team Virgo Motorsport for Rob Bell and Italian Gianmaria Bruni, while JMB Racing will run two 430 GTs, the lead car for Stéphane Daoudi and Ben Aucott.
Horst Farnbacher has made an interesting split this season, running a Ferrari 430 GT for Pierre Ehret, Pierre Kaffer and Anthony Beltoise, and a Porsche RSR for Lars-Erik Nielsen, Allan Simonsen and Richard Westbrook.
Porsche will come back stronger this year, with two of the new RSRs entered by IMSA Performance Matmut and two more by Team Felbermayr Proton, the lead car for Marc Lieb and Alex Davison.
Spyker Squadron ended the 2007 season well with two podium results, and have paired Peter Dumbreck with Tom Coronel, and Ralf Kelleners with Alexei Vasiliev. Speedy Racing will also enter a C8 Laviolette GT2R this seson, driven by Benjamin Leuenberger and Andrea Chiesa.
