The ELMS teams at the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual

ELMS - 02/06/2020 - Sophie LIGER

On the 13th and 14th June, the original date of the 88th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a brand new event will be organised but this time virtually. For the first time in the 97 year history of the French race, there will be a virtual race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Fifty cars will race for the virtual glory with some big names coming from all genres of motor sport, including current F1 drivers, Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly; world champions such as Fernando Alonso, Brendon Hartley and Sebastien Buemi -  and also well known names from Endurance Racing including Bruno Senna, Kamui Kobayashi and Filipe Albuquerque.

Among the teams participating in this special event, seven are entered in the 2020 European Le Mans Series.

In the LMP2 class, there will be five ELMS teams competing. First, the reigning 2019 champions, Idec Sport Racing, with Paul Loup Chatin and Richard Bradley at the wheel. They will be joined by Franco Colapinto and the Sim Racer Josh Purwien.

United Autosports have entered one Oreca 07 LMP2 in the race that will be driven by Filipe Albuquerque, Alex Brundle, Job Van Uitert and Tom Gamble. It is one of the few teams not to have a sim racer in the line-up, but there is no doubt that they will fight as hard as they can in this exceptional race!

Panis Racing Triple A will have two cars in the event, with Olivier Panis, along with his son Aurélien at the wheel of the n°9 Oreca 07. They will be joined by two Sim Racers, Adam Pinczes and Nuno Pinto. The second car entered by the team is the n°31 driven by Tristan Vautier and Nicolas Jamin, who are used to racing in the ELMS, with Hany Alsabti and Thibault Cazaubon, two talented sim racers.

Cool Racing, another front running team in ELMS, received one entry at the virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans. The n° 42 Oreca 07 will be driven by Nicolas Lapierre and Antonin Borga. The two drivers are used to driving together as they already teamed up for the 2019 ELMS season and the Season 8 of the FIA WEC. Erwann Barbier and Maxime Scalabrini will be the two sim racers that will help them to fight at the front of the field.

Finally, Richard Mille Racing Team, the outfit with an all-female line up in ELMS this season will also run with only women at the virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans next week. Katherine Legge, Tatiana Calderon and Sophia Floersch will be joined by Emily Jones, the only female sim racer of the grid.

In the GTE class, we can count two teams that are well known in the European Le Mans Series, Ferrari-AF Corse and Dempsey Proton Racing. Nicklas Nielsen, 2019 ELMS LMGTE drivers champion will be at the wheel of the n° 51 Ferrari 488 GTE. Riccardo Pera, a now well-known name and race winner in the ELMS will drive the n° 88 Dempsey Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR.

We look forward to seeing the ELMS teams in action at the virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans and follow their performance for this unique race!
