So24! by Lombard Racing moves on learning in Imola

ELMS - 18/05/2016

The second round of the 2016 European Le Mans Series season took place at the Italian Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola. Even if weather forecast were announcing bad and wet conditions all over the week-end, the free and qualifying sessions took place a on dry track and under a clear sky. But the end of the race could not escape the storm and the 4 Hours of Imola 2016 finished under safety car.

During both free practice sessions on Friday and Saturday, the So24! by Lombard Racing drivers Jonathan Coleman, Vincent Capillaire and Olivier Lombard worked on the car set-ups for this circuit which is quite demanding for the car and the drivers.

After Silverstone, where Vincent Capillaire was in charge of qualifying the car, it was the turn of Olivier Lombard to be at the wheel for qualifying in Imola. He took n°22 So24! by Lombard Racing Ligier JS P2 to the fourth starting line, 9 tenth behind pole setter and only 2 tenth from 2015 pole position.

RACE : Vincent Capillaire started the race and was in charge of the two first stints, but he received a drive through penalty for “non-observance of the imposed distances during the formation lap” (art 10.1.11 b), which made him lose three places in the general classification. Jonathan Coleman took over after 75 laps for the third stint of the race, while Olivier Lombard took the car to the chequered flag, but the last hour of the race took place under pouring rain, therefore Olivier drove most of his time under FCY. With this horrible weather conditions, the race director even decided to finish the race under safety car statement.

Vincent: “The race was difficult, but in the end it was very interesting as we gathered a lot of information. The track is complicated and very demanding for the car as well as for the drivers and this race was a good experience for our team. You really learn facing difficulties, that’s where you can analyse, understand and evolve.”

Jonathan: “We learned a lot on the car again today and this is very good on our road to Le Mans 24 Hours. We made it to the end of the race and that’s the best way to prepare ourselves.”

Oliver: “As for every meeting, we came here with the objectives of doing our job the best possible way, to adapt to the car and adapt the car to the three of us. That’s exactly what we did, and we did progress in qualification. Concerning my race stints, I took over just before it started to rain, so I did not really have a chance to do anything great. What really matters is that we did not have any problem on the car, and this another good news before the 24 Hours of Le Mans.”
