ELMS - 07/04/2016
Q: Welcome to the European Le Mans Series. What are your first thoughts on the championship?
“I am very happy to be here in Europe. Everything is new here and there are obviously many differences in the way of racing between here and America. It is very professional and very interesting to me and I am really looking forward to the coming season.”
Q: Are all the circuit new to you?
“Some of the circuits I have raced on before but it was 12 years ago, so I don’t know if I will remember them.”
Q: You’ve won at Daytona and Sebring but this year you will race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. What are your thoughts on this race?
“It was one of the main incentives this year. I knew at some point in my career I would have to come back to Europe and not only compete in a European series but give it a shot at Le Mans. I would say the most prestigious endurance races are obviously Le Mans, Daytona 24 and the 12 Hours of Sebring and adding Le Mans to the list would be amazing but I know it is not easy. There are some great teams and great drivers here so we will give it our best shot in June.”
Q: Mexico is on the up with Formula One, Formula E and FIA World Endurance Championship racing in Mexico City and you are here racing in Europe. Is motorsport on the ascendance in your home country?
“It is amazing to see. Mexico has such a big history for road racing and being part of it is incredible for me. We’ve had many eras, a few years ago the Indycar and NASCAR in Mexico, now Formula One is there and endurance racing is going there. There are not many countries that have had the luxury of NASCAR, Formula One, Indycar and the World Endurance Championship on the same track in the same country. And the fans love it. They have a huge culture and knowledge about racing. You just have to look at the F1 race, it broke records. It was a big party, a big fiesta!”
