ELMS - 12/06/2015
Thursday, June 11: The second qualifying session was disrupted by red flags following Jan Magnussen’s accident in the Corvette C7R, an entry which ultimately will not take the start of the 24 Hours in 2015 as the car is too damaged to be repaired at the track. The driver was unharmed. Q3 was extended by 30 minutes to compensate for the lack of timed laps, but a fire for the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of the AAI team brought about a new disruption in the session.
The Porsche Team’s LMP1s will occupy the first three places on the grid for the 83rd running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The three Audi R18 e-tron quattros follow in 4th, 5th and 6th positions, while the two TS040 HYBRIDS of Toyota Racing will start from the 4th row. The Nissan LMP1s, newcomers to Circuit de la Sarthe are 12th, 13th and 14th in class.
Greaves Motorsport and JOTA Sport fastest in LMP2 from ELMS
In LMP2, nine of the competitors are from the 2015 European Le Mans Series. Pole position was claimed by the Hong Kong based KCMG team (WEC), whose ORECA 05 will start from the sixth row of the overall grid, alongside the No.26 G-Drive Racing Ligier JS P2 (WEC).
The second row in LMP2 will be filled by the ELMS prototypes of Greaves Motorsport and JOTA Sport. The two Gibson 015S Nissans set their fastest laps in Wednesday evening’s first qualifying session: Jon Lancaster with a time of 3m38.958 driving the No.41 Greaves Motorsport and Oliver Turvey in the No.38 JOTA Sport.
Tristan Gommendy set the fastest lap in the No.46 Thiriet by TDS Racing ORECA 05 in the final qualifying session on Thursday evening, and will start on the 8th row after setting the 6th fastest time in class.
After a serious accident - fortunately without injury for driver Mark Patterson - disrupted Wednesday’s free practice session, the No.48 Murphy Prototypes ORECA 03R will start behind its bigger sister on the 9th row. Nathanaël Berthon managed to set the fastest lap of the car in the third qualifying session, after many setbacks and much work having been done on the car.
The 11th row of the LMP2 starting grid will be occupied by the Morgan Nissan of Pegasus Racing. The youngest driver on the grid for the 83rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Leo Roussel, set the 11th quickest time in class on Wednesday night during the first qualifying session. SMP Racing set the 12th and 14th fastest times in the category and Nicolas Minassian will take the start alongside Leo Roussel at the wheel of the new No.27 BR01 Nissan. The No.37 BR01 will be just behind its sister car. The No.40 Krohn Racing Ligier JS P2 is 17th in class, while the Ibanez Racing ORECA 03R will start from 18th on the team’s debut in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Two LMGTE competitors will also be on the starting grid for the 2015 Le Mans 24 Hours. The No.55 AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia achieved the 7th quickest lap in LMGTE Am, while the yellow No.66 of JMW Motorsport is 11th.
Everyone from the European Le Mans Series wishes good luck to "their" teams for the great Le Mans race!!
