LM GTE - 05/10/2018 - Jeff CARTER
With just 13.5 points separating the top three cars after five races, and five teams still mathematically able to take the title. The LMGTE category is currently headed by the no88 Proton Competition Porsche of father and son duo Gianluca and Giorgio Roda on 80.5 points. Their teammate, Matteo Cairoli, is on 70.5 points after missing the race in Monza and cannot win the driver’s crown but can help Proton Competition take the team title in Portugal.
2017 LMGTE Team Champions JMW Motorsport are 11.5 points behind the leaders, with Liam Griffin, Alex MacDowall and Miguel Molina on 69 points thanks to the race wins at Paul Ricard and Silverstone. The no55 Spirit of Race Ferrari of Matt Griffin, Duncan Cameron and Aaron Scott is on 67 points, 13.5 behind the no88 Porsche.

The no80 Ebimotors Porsche and the no77 Proton Competition Porsche are still within striking distance of the leaders but are 22 and 22.5 points behind respectively, so will need to have a lot of luck on their side to overtake their rivals at the end of the 4 Hours of Portimão.
With a maximum of 26 points available the no88 Porsche needs to finish on the podium to guarantee they have enough points to finish ahead of their rivals assuming that full points will be awarded in Portugal. Should the no66 Ferrari take the victory and the no88 Porsche finish off the podium, JMW Motorsport would retain their title.
If the no55 Ferrari takes pole and victory and the no88 Porsche finishes off the podium, the no55 Spirit of Race F488 would claim the title by the slimmest of margins.
There is all to play for in the final race of the 2018 European Le Mans Series in Portugal.
