Prospeed, the safety-car… did not secure the result!

ELMS - 20/04/2014

Team Info

If there's one circuit where the numerous qualities of the Porsche 911 do not come into their own it is undoubtedly Silverstone. Ranked in fourth place the Paul Van Splunteren (NDL), Gilles Vannelet (FRA) and Maxime Soulet (BEL) trio headed off for a top rate performance. However this was without taking into account an off-road excursion of an LMP2 prototype and the appearance of the safety-car. 45 minutes of the race remained and this race incident ruined the Belgian team's performance. On the other this first meeting of the European Le Mans Series fully confirms ProSpeed Competition's ambitionsat the dawn of the season. One and all will need to keep a close eye on the bluewhite liveried Porsche bearing the colours of NEC-Serfim-Remeha-6ème Sens in the following rounds. The second meeting of the ELMS, the European Endurance Championship will take place at Imola (ITA) during mid-May.

The inaugural round of the European Le Mans Series kept to all its promises, with at the finish of the four hours race, the first three cars in the “Grand Touring Challenge”… split byless than ten seconds! With such a level of competitiveness the performance put in by theProSpeed Competition team is a worthy one. The Porsche 911 GT3-R #75 held on to a first place in a category fiercely contested by some fifteen competitors. A fourth place at the drop of the chequered flag would have been a correct reward.

Rudi Penders (ProSpeed Competition Team Principal)“To fully succeed in motorsport one needs to master countless components. This includes race facts and elements. Today it took but mere moment, as furtive as it might seem, to drop down five places in our category. Luckily the analysis of the performances is encouraging. Our strategy to start off the race with the car in the hands of Maxime was excellent. A superb start and a P2 position following the first relay were proof of the cards we held. It's now up to us to continue in this momentum and to work even more when it comes down to communication.”

Paul Van Splunteren (Driver - Porsche 911 GT3-R #75 – GTC Class)“Together with Gilles and Maxime we worked hard, right from the start of the weekend. We truly worked very hard. The car performed well and was comfortable to drive and handle. The Silverstone circuit is known to be a track where aerodynamics plays a predominant role. Traditionally the Porsche 911 comes into its own on other circuits. But today here also she was able to struggle for a podium!”

Gilles Vannelet (Driver - Porsche 911 GT3-R #75 – GTC Class)“I'm delighted because in my case this is a first success. Integration into the team could not have been better, and when I saw our car at the op of the hierarchy, in P1, when the #98 came into to serve its penalty for an anticipated start, I was in heaven. I'm truly confident. Our efforts will very shortly be rewarded with a choice result.”
