ELMS - 02/04/2008
The “LM” P2 category will feature a wealth of new machinery this year as three teams have chosen to enter Porsche's RS Spyder, and the Embassy Racing team will debut its own car, the WF01 in Barcelona, designed by Peter Elleray and powered by the Zytek engine.
For the first time in the Le Mans Series history, there will be a closed canopy “LM” P2 prototype, entered by the Speedy Racing team Sebah and driven by Andrea Belicchi, Steve Zacchia and Xavier Pompidou. With the willy Hugh Hayden at the helm, the car performed well in pre-season testing in the hands of Robbie Kerr.
RML's AER-MG powered Lola EX265, the champion team in 2007, returns improved for the '08 season, and drivers Mike Newton and Tommy Erdos will offer their customary blend of speed and reliability.
Juan Barazi's Barazi-Epsilon team runs the latest Zytek, the 07S, as will Trading Performance, a new team with drivers Karim Ojjeh, Claude-Yves Gosselin and Julien Schroyen.
Will Porsches prove to be the giant killers everyone fears? Veterans Fredy Lienhard, Didier Theys and Jan Lammers will drive the Horag Racing Porsche, John Nielsen and Casper Elgaard the Team Essex Porsche, while the third, from Holland, is driven by owner Peter van Merksteijn, Jos Verstappen.
