We met with Oliver Turvey JOTA Sport at scrutineering

LM P2 - 09/06/2015

With Simon Dolan and Mitch Evans, Oliver Turvey is motivated to retain the LMP2 title in 2015

You jumped in last year at the last moment to drive for JOTA Sport at the Le Mans 24 Hours, and finished on the top step of the LMP2 podium.  Have you had more time to prepare this year?

It was definitely a last minute call, and I found out on Thursday before the race that I was going to be part of the team. I only had a few laps before the race, but in the end it was fantastic.  The memories from this one race will stay with me forever.

This year I was given a little more notice as I was called up by JOTA Sport in April. It’s really nice to be back here to defend our LMP2 winners’ title. It’s my third year with the team, I’m really comfortable with everyone and have a lot of confidence and I enjoy racing with the team.

Obviously I’ve had more time to get ready, first of all psychologically compared to last year’s short notice, but also physically I’ve had a chance to work out and look at everything I could do to improve.

I have been racing with Honda in Japan in Super GT, a really competitive series. A lot of top drivers, especially in LMP1, have come through that series and I have learnt a lot about myself as well as about racing.  I hope therefore that I will be even stronger this year.

Mitch is making his debut in the Le Mans 24 Hours, did he ask you for any advice?

It’s true it’s his first time but he’s a very good driver with lots of single-seater experience.  He’s quick and has had good results in GP2. He doesn’t have the Le Mans or endurance racing experience, but I am totally confident he will be quick here too. If he does need any information, I will be happy to help, and pass on to him the experience I have had in last two years.
