Nigel Mansell: "I like the ambiance and competitiveness of Le Mans Series!"

ELMS - 04/09/2009

The 1992 Formula 1 World Champion, will be back on one of his favourite circuits for the fifth and last race of the 2009 Le Mans Series season: the Autosport 1000 Km of Silverstone.

A major event to be followed in less than two weeks time; when for the first time in motor sport history, a World Champion will race with two of his children at the highest international competition level.

The 56 year old British driver will share the wheel of LNT Team's LMP1 Ginetta-Zytek with Lawrence Tomlinson and his son, Greg.

Leo Mansell, Nigel's other son, as since the beginning of the season, will also be on the track in another category with Modena Team's Ferrari F430 (GT2).

Nigel gave an interview two weeks ago at the 1000 Km of Nürburgring where he was supporting and advising Leo.

LMS: Nigel, a few weeks before your come back to the competition, what do you expect from the Autosport 1000 Km of Silverstone ?

N.M :  “This will be my first time in LMP1. This is a very exciting opportunity that Lawrence Tomlinson has given to us to compete in the Ginetta-Zytek car and especially at Silverstone where I have had three victories. I hope that reliability will be there and I hope to have fun!”

LMS: You follow your son Leo on the Le Mans Series rounds since the beginning of the season. What do you think of Le Mans Series?

N.M:  “I like the ambiance and the competitiveness of the Series. It is run professionally and all the races are very exciting to watch. I think that a six-hour race is a good balance and a lot of things can happen. I am here watching Leo, and I am impressed by Team Modena. Ferrari means a lot for me and I am pleased to be back working with them.”

LMS: What about driving with both your sons?

N.M: “This is the first time ever that a Formula 1 world champion and his two sons enter the same race. I am not sure that it will happen again! Leo won't compete in the same class, but I am delighted to share the wheel with Greg.”

LMS to Greg Mansell : Greg, what do you think about the Mansell family gathered for a race?

G.M: “We already raced together with my brother, but I am very excited to have my dad as a teammate! I think this will be a life experience.”
