MOTORSPORT QUESTIONS

Whether in ELMS or not, how was your 2014 season?

I had a very good 2014 season competing partial season in the IMSA TUDOR championship in the GTLM category as the only privateer team with the Krohn Racing Ferrari 458. We had several good and competitive races with a 4th place finish at Sebring as our highest result. I also had a great season in the Pirelli World Challenge with my Kinetic Motorsports and KIA Racing, I won several races and ended up winning the Manufacturers Championship for KIA. This was the first international motorsports Championship title for a Korean car manufacturer, so it was a great milestone and history making to be a part of.

What did you do during the winter?
I had a very hectic and productive test period through out the winter with both our new LMP2 Ligier JSP2 ELMS contender for 2015 , along with my Kinetic Motorsports Kia racing efforts. I also enjoyed a great holiday season with my family.

What do you expect from the 2015 ELMS season?
I expect the ELMS season to be a very competitive and fun season. There is a great depth of both driver talent and great teams entered in all the classes, so its going to be a absolute fantastic experience.

Do you know all the circuits on the 2015 schedule? Which one is your favourite?
I don’t know and never been to Paul Ricard and Red Bull Ring, but I heard a lot of good things about those tracks  and cant wait to get there. My favourite, I’m not sure , but I do like technical tracks , so Imola will have to be one of the tracks I’m going to enjoy coming back to.

How do you prepare for a race weekend?

Just try to get as much sleep as possible and get in to the time zone, since I live in the States. I try to fly in a few days prior. I also make sure I eat properly to have the energy that’s needed. I also try to watch some video to get the track fresh in my memory.

Do you have a special ritual before the race? If yes, what is it ?
I like to do a track walk with my engineer and teammates to discuss track specifics. I also like to look at some data and video to just get in to the track and remember what it was last time I was there, if I been there before.

What are the strengths of your team?
I think we have a very good and experienced group of guys who knows what it takes to win. As we all know you don’t win the race by panic and not being 100% prepared. We also have a very good and consistent driver line up, along with great reliable pit stops. Krohn Racing has been doing this for over 10 years together now, with the majority of the same people. I believe this is a huge strength and will serve us well this year.

What are the strengths of your co driver(s)?
Both my co-drivers have a huge depth of knowledge and experience from both endurance racing over the last 10 years or more, but also international qualities as race winners and pace setters at some of the most competitive sportscar series in the world. Along with this, they are great team players and know what it takes to win races and Championships.

What is the race you want to take part in the most? And why?
Le Mans is always the race every year you want to be a part of, and of course have a great results.

What has been your best result in motorsport? (which discipline, when, what circuit)
I’ve been very fortunate to been able and allow to race professionally for over 25 years. So I have won several open wheel championships in F3 in Scandinavia and Europe in the 1990’s. I’m also very proud of my victories at the 12 Hours of Sebring in the GT class, along with my 2 GT class victories at Petit Le Mans. I’m also proud of my Win at Long Beach in Pirelli World Challenge in my KIA Optima Turbo in 2014.
