ELMS - 18/10/2014
The 35 competitors for the final round of the 2014 ELMS set out this morning for the first free practice session at 11h00 (12h00 CET) on a track that had been declared WET by the Race Director. The sun, however, reappeared over the Autodromo di Estoril circuit after a few laps.
The majority of drivers present had to use the first session to familiarise themselves with the track and, while learning it, a good number received penalties (cancellation of their fastest lap) for exceeding track limits.
The red flag was deployed three times during the session due to GTE cars going off track and into the gravel traps, which resulted in the session being extended until 12h40. This morning it was the No.48 Murphy Prototypes ORECA 03-Nissan which set the fastest lap of 1:33.381 ahead of the Zytek of local star Filipe Albuquerque, the No. 38 JOTA Sport entry.
Determined to use this final meeting of the season as a good opportunity to show what it can do, the Thiriet by TDS Racing team was up there with the leaders and set the third fastest time of the session.
The Championship-leading No.36 Signatech Alpine A450b set the fifth quickest time ahead of the Nol43 Morgan Judd of NewBlood by Morand Racing.
The second free practice session for
the 4 Hours of
Estoril will be held this
afternoon at 15h30 (16h30 CET).
