MURPHY PROTOTYPES WALKS ON WATER!

ELMS - 14/07/2012

The ELMS teams had to cope with execrable weather conditions on the first day of free practice at Donington, the theatre of the second round of the season. In the first session in the rain Matthieu Lahaye was quickest in the Oak Racing Morgan-Judd, while the Oreca 03-Nissan (photo) driven by New Zealander Brendon Hartley topped the time sheets in the afternoon session, the start of which had to be put back for an hour because of the rain that flooded the track making it unusable.

Soheil Ayari was back with the Pecom Racing team after the French driver had had to withdraw from the first round on the Paul Ricard circuit because of a shoulder injury. There were also two other French drivers in the ELMS, the Jousse brothers, Maxime and Julien, who are driving the Status Grand Prix Lola B12/80-Judd coupe.

Rendezvous tomorrow morning for the third session followed by qualifying in the early afternoon.

Brendon Hartley (Murphy Prototypes):

"The car felt really good! I went out on track after Jody and although there was still a lot of heavy standing water I was improving my time on every lap. I believe I was over 2 seconds faster than everyone at one point, but all three of us were competitive in the car today. If it rains over the rest of weekend I feel very confident that we should do well and am happy with the job we did today. Everything is working well, so bring on tomorrow."
