Murphy Prototypes Le Mans 2013 Qualifying

ELMS - 21/06/2013

Murphy Prototype Racing was founded by Dublin-based green energy entrepreneur, Greg Murphy. Greg has a distinct motor-racing pedigree, as a driver with Minardi Team Asia and now as racing team principal. He is the founder and team principal of Murphy Prototypes, the only Irish team to take part in the Le Mans 24 Hour Race and compete in the European Le Mans series.

Brendon Hartley (NZL) “We could have been much better, but it's qualifying for a 24-hour race. We had some kind of issue with the steering rack – Karun commented on it yesterday and that made it very tricky in the beginning. We tired to rectify the problem we spent another half an hour in the pits – but obviously I got used to the problem with the steering rack which was tricky. Then I was setting my first dry laps in the darkness, so it was getting all my references again, and in the end I think I had one lap after a red flag which was clear, didn't really nail it, then the next lap I was already one second up which almost put us in the to three. Two or three times I had traffic in my last sector but I'm sure everyone has a similar story. But P7 it's not a big deal such a long race tomorrow we have little issue to fix, but we're in good shape.”

Mark Patterson (RSA/USA) "Today we were going to go out at 7 o'clock, and the rain's came as the session started and we waited 40 minutes and eventually we put Brendon out there was nothing to do, there was really nothing to do – cars were sliding off left, right and centre, it was very dangerous and a couple of cars were wiped out. But we weren't and Brendon, in the latter session in pitch, pitch, pitch dark put in unbelievable lap times and moved us up from ninth to seventh but we probably had a third, fourth start in that car for sure.”

Greg Murphy Team Principal (IRL) “We were pretty disappointed to be honest, every time we went for a lap we got traffic, we got red flags… I'm sure it's a common story up and down the pitlane, but yeah, we really struggled. We had a lot more pace in the car, than we showed today. But seventh position, I think Starworks when they won it last year started in 11th, so we're reasonable happy, 24 hours to go, we're here to fight and we're here to win so I think we have some good speed in the car. We had a problem with all the red flags and stuff, we didn't get a rhythm, and I feel a little bit for Karun he had very little running, but he's such a good driver it's not going to be a problem.”
