Mowlem Hangs Up His Race Suit in Portugal

ELMS - 21/10/2016

On Saturday 22nd October Johnny Mowlem will compete as a professional racing driver for the last time when he races with Ivor Dunbar in the season finale of the 2016 Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup.

The British driver has enjoyed a career that spans 20 years in sportscars and single seaters before that, with wins at the Daytona 24 Hours, 12 Hours at Sebring and has stood on the podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.  More recently Johnny Mowlem added a European Le Mans Series title to his CV when he secured the 2013 LMGTE crown with Ireland’s Matt Griffin for British team RAM Racing.

His career was given a massive boost in 1997 when he dominated the British Porsche Cup that year, winning all 17 races, including 14 from pole position, to become British champion and also win the prestigious Gregor Grant Award at that year’s Autosport Awards in recognition of his achievement.

We caught up with Johnny Mowlem ahead of the final weekend of his professional racing career at Estoril.
