Three From Three in LMP3

ELMS - 21/08/2019 - Jeff CARTER

With fourteen high quality entries, the LMP3 class in the 2019 European Le Mans Series promised to provide some close racing drama and after three races no one has been left disappointed. There have been three different winners in Le Castellet, Monza and Barcelona, with three different pole position holders as well, none of whom have finished on the podium so far.

In Round 1 the pole position went to the no10 Oregon Team Norma-Nissan with Damiano Fioravanti setting the fastest LMP3 time in qualifying. However the victory went to the all French Ultimate team with Jean-Baptiste Lahaye, Francois Heriau and Matthieu Lahaye taking the first 25 points of the season.

Round 2 at Monza saw Lucas Legeret in the no19 M Racing Norma take pole position.  While the French team could only manage 5th in the race, victory went to the no11 Eurointernational Ligier of Mikkel Jensen and Jens Petersen, the German Danish duo stepping up one place from the second they achieved in Le Castellet.

In Barcelona Mikkel Jensen took the pole position in the no11 Ligier but the win went to the no13 Inter Europol Competition Ligier of Martin Hippe and Nigel Moore.  The 25 points for the win in Spain, added to the third place in Le Castellet and second place in Monza, has put the Anglo-German pairing at the top of the points table on 58 points, 14 ahead of the no11 Eurointernational Ligier and 15 ahead of the no17 Ultimate Norma.

Who will score the pole position at Silverstone and will they break the run of bad luck for the car starting at the front of the LMP3 field.  Will there be another different winner at the end of the four hour race on Saturday 31 August or will one of the 2019 winners make it to the top step of the podium again?  We will have to wait and see.

Round 4 of the 2019 European Le Mans Series will take place on the 30/31 August in the UK, with the 4 Hours of Silverstone.
