LMGTE Success Ballast for the Season Finale in Portimão

With the no51 Luzich Racing Ferrari securing the 2019 ELMS LMGTE title in Belgium last month, and with it one of the two automatic invitations to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2020, all eyes will be on the battle for the vice champions position and the second Le Mans invitation at the 4 Hours of Portimão.

There are four teams in contention for the final coveted invitation and the amount of success ballast each car will carry in Portugal could prove crucial.

The no51 Ferrari will be carrying the most weight, with 30kg on board the champions car.

The no77 Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche is currently second on 75 points, with the 911 carrying an extra 20kg thanks to the second-place finish in Belgium (10kg) and the second place in the championship (10kg).

The no83 Kessel Racing Ferrari is third on 68 points, and the 488 GTE EVO will carry an extra 15kg in Portugal. The no66 JMW Motorsport will also carry an extra 15kg, the British team currently 4^th on 64 points.

With 26 points still to win the no55 Spirit of Race Ferrari can still mathematically take the vice champions position. The 488 is currently 5^th on 56 points, 19 points behind the second placed Porsche, and will carry the least extra weight, with just 5kg of success ballast added.

The 4 Hours of Portimão is Round 6 and the season finale for the 2019 European Le Mans Series, with the race taking place on Sunday 27 October.
