Championship Leaders Out in Front at Spa

The no22 G-Drive Racing Oreca07 was the quickest of the 35 cars taking part in Free Practice 2 for the 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.

The championship leading car set a 2m03.058 lap with Ryo Hirakawa at the wheel, the Japanese drivers time over 0.5 seconds ahead of the no40 Graff Oreca 07-Gibson of Richard Bradley.  G-Drive’s main championship rivals in the no32 United Autosports Ligier were third fastest with Filipe Albuquerque posting a 2m03.605, just 0.026s behind Bradley’s Oreca and 0.547s behind the lead car.

The LMP3 class was headed by the no3 United Autosports Ligier-Nissan of Wayne Boyd, the British driver setting a 2m16.781 in the final few minutes of the 90-minute session.  The no10 Oregon Team Norma M30-Nissan was second fastest, with a 2m17.327 lap to put the Italian team in contention ahead of qualifying.  The championship leading no2 United Autosports Ligier of Sean Rayhall and John Falb was fourth fastest behind the no13 Inter Europol Competition of Jakub Smechowski, with Rayhall setting a 2m17.327 lap.

The no90 TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage was quickest in the LMGTE class with points leader Nicki Thiim posting a 2m17.901 lap which put the Dane in the middle of the LMP3 grid.  The no66 JMW Motorsport Ferrari was send quickest with Will Stevens setting a 2m18.951

Qualifying for the 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps will take place this afternoon at 13h35 beginning with the LMGTE category.
