ELMS 4 Hours of Red Bull Ring – A success for fans and competitors alike

While the races themselves are more exciting each time, the ELMS organization also strives to offer its guests even more entertainment off track and new support races which add to a weekend full of cheer.

In Austria the paddock entertainments delighted young and old, each finding something there to amuse them.  BMX demonstrations enthralled visitors, as well as a bouncy castle for the little ones plus mini karts and mini motorbikes.

Wholly available to visitors free of charge, the paddocks allowed up-close access to all cars whether they were prototypes, single-seaters or touring cars; every category gladly welcomed the fans.

An opportunity was also given to fans to meet the drivers and get them to sign autographs.  Many took up the chance to get close to the only Austrian driver present, Richard Lietz, who was at the wheel of the No.88 Proton Competition Porsche 911 RSR.

Endurance racers, Single-seaters, Touring cars – a festival of racing

With three disciplines each as exciting as the other, spectators at the Red Bull Ring thrilled to the sights and sounds of the European Le Mans Series’ prototypes and GT cars, but also experienced the shivers of excitement from the Formula Renault 3.5 races. In addition, the touring cars entered in the TCR International Series put on a great spectacle in both their sprint races.

Sunday at the Red Bull Ring was a unique opportunity for many spectators to witness over 6 hours of competitive racing.

After a very tightly fought battle through each of the four categories, the 4 Hours of Red Bull Ring saw JOTA Sport mount the top step of the LMP2 podium and narrowly take the overall lead in the championship points’ tables.  Team LNT and Olympic medalist Sir Chris Hoy (teamed with Charlie Robertson) won their second race of the season in LMP3, while the Danish Formula Racing team won in LMGTE and finished in 7th place overall.  In GTC, the No.62 AF Corse Ferrari of Castellacci/Hall/ Flohr claimed its second class victory.

Formula Renault 3.5

As well as an eventful endurance race, the many motorsport aficionados present were also able to watch impressive victories in single-seaters (two races each 40 minutes long) by Fortec Motorsport’s Oliver Rowland and Frenchman Matthieu Vaxivière from Lotus–Charouz.

The new TCR International Series also played a significant part in putting on two fantastic sprint races of 30 minutes each, which respectively saw the SEAT Leon of Stefano Comini (Target Competition) and the Volkswagen Golf R of Pol Rosell (Liqui Moly Team Engstler) taking the winners’ points last Sunday in Austria
