Dragonspeed Quickest in Wet First Free Practice of 2018

ELMS - 13/04/2018 - Jeff CARTER

A wet track at the Circuit Paul Ricard was waiting for the competitors for the opening Free Practice session of the 2018 ELMS season. There was one red flag which stopped the session fo six minutes to recover the no14 Inter Europol Competition Ligier after Luca Demarchi went off into the barriers after being tapped into a spin by another car in the tricky conditions at Turn 13. The Italian was OK and the session resumed once the car was clear of the track.

Towards the end of the session the track had begun to dry and times started to tumble.   Nicolas Lapierre posted the fastest time of the session with a 1m48.580 lap in the no21 Dragonspeed Oreca, two seconds ahead of the no33 TDS Racing Oreca and the no39 Graff Oreca.

The fastest car in the LMP3 category was the no17 Ultimate Norma with a 2m01.612, with the no10 Oregon Team Norma finishing the 90 minute session on a 2m02.367.

Matteo Cairoli led the way in the LMGTE category, the Italian posting a 2m01.282 in the no88 Proton Competition Porsche 911, 0.2 seconds ahead of the no86 Gulf Racing Porche.
