ELMS - 16/06/2016
Q: Why is Le Mans special for you?
“I never thought I would be able to race here for a start, that I would never get to this kind of level. Before I came here I thought it was a race that was at the top of the tree. You can’t understand Le Mans until you drive it and how different it is from other circuits. Its public roads and you never get to practice here, the car feels completely different here than anywhere else because we take the downforce off of it. It doesn’t feel that quick when you are going round, the gearing is very tall. You do two minutes driving and that is a lap of a normal circuit like Silverstone and here you are only half way round. You have a lot of time to think.
“Racing with the LMP1 cars is different as well, there so quick you don’t really see anything of them; they are very good, they just blast straight by you. The whole event is just spectacular from a driver’s point of view”
Q: How important is it to have the consistency in the driver line up?
“Last year we did ELMS with Aaron (Scott) and at Le Mans we had Alex Mortimer in the car, with me and Griff as the constants. I think it is better doing it this way round this year, we got the same knowledge on the car, we’ve worked together through all the season, setting the car up, we have the same ups and downs, so I think it makes more sense to do it this way.”
