In memory of Ayrton Senna

ELMS - 03/07/2011

Imola was inaugurated in 1953 and quickly became one of the principal motorsport circuits in Italy. It is just down the road from the factories of Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini, and it has been the theatre of exceptional victories and serious accidents, one of which cost Ayrton Senna his life on 1st May 1994.

In that era, the layout was different. Tamburello was a left-hander taken flat out. It has now been broken up by a chicane.

Today, the place is a Mecca for all lovers of motor sport who come to mourn their deceased hero. A commemorative plate is accompanied by the testimonies of many anonymous fans as well as photos, flowers and expressions of admiration and regrets that are renewed on an on-going basis.

During the Imola 6-Hours weekend the site receive visits from fans.
