In Formula Le Mans…

ELMS - 12/07/2011

Created in 2009, Formula Le Mans has raced within Le Mans Series since two years. The category has real potential and this is shown in different ways. First of all the ORECA-FLM 09 participated in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup last year. After this season, the winner of the Team classification will be automatically offered a qualification for the 2012, 24 Hours of Le Mans in LMP2. An invitation which obviously arouses interest and gives rise to beautiful battles on the track.

« Formula Le Mans is a monotype category », reminds David Floury, ORECA's Technical Manager. « The aim is to cut costs while maintaining driving pleasure and a level of performance situated between LMP2 and GT. At the same time a reliability programme of the FLM has been implemented during the inter-season with various developments. Finally we have improved the service given to the teams in particular via important work carried out on the technical documentation. The goal is to increase support to the teams, in the field but not only. We also help the teams with external communication to promote their projects. »

A new competition-client department has been put in place since 2011 with a team of four people. At its head, Doug Bebb, with past experiences at Williams F1, Toyota and MG in Endurance racing.

Today, five crews fight fierce battles since the beginning of the season. In first position, Pegasus Racing totalising two victories and 43 points on their meter. The second place is much coveted between Genoa Racing and JMB Racing, winner at Imola, with a small three point gap. Neil Garner Motorsport, newcomer to Le Mans Series, is caught in an ambush. Hope Racing brings up the rear but the Swiss team, twice vice-champion, has not said its last word especially after the podium at the 6 Hours of Imola.
