Graff Heads Wet First ELMS Test Session

ELMS - 09/04/2018 - Jeff CARTER

The weather in south of France for the opening session of the two day Official ELMS Test was inclement with rain and strong winds at the Circuit Paul Ricard for most of the four hour test session.

At the end of the first of five test sessions, the drying track saw times tumble and Tristan Gommendy in the no39 Graff Oreca posted a 1m44.012 lap just as the chequered flag was shown.  The French drivers time was 0.159s faster than Victor Shaitar in the no35 SMP Racing Dallara.

Two red flags were caused when Alex Toril spun off into the barriers in the tricky conditions in the no8 DKR Engineering Norma-Nissan and then Fabio Babini also went off in the no 80 Ebimotors Porsche.  Both drivers were OK and the sessions resumed quickly, with the DKR Norma rejoining the test session after repairs.

The no2 United Autosports Ligier of Sean Rayhall was the fastest of the LMP3 competitors, the reigning champion finishing the session on a 1m53.081, just 0.19s ahead of the no17 Ultimate Norma of Mathieu Lahaye, with David Droux third fastest in the no19 M Racing – YMR Norma with a 1m53.584.

The no88 Proton Competition Porsche was the fastest in the LMGTE category with a 1m56.548, 0.218s faster than the no55 Spirit of Race Ferrari F488.

The second 4-hour test session will begin after lunch at 14h00 CET.
