FP1: G-Drive Out In Front in Silverstone

Sunny skies and a dry track greeted the drivers and teams for the first Free Practice session of the 4 Hours of Silverstone race weekend, Round 4 of the 2018 European Le Mans Series.

The session finished with Oreca filling the top four positions and led by the championship leading no26 G-Drive Racing Oreca 07-Gibson after Jean-Eric Vergne set a 1m46.287 lap, 0.246 ahead of the no21 DragonSpeed Oreca, with Ben Hanley setting the fastest lap in that car. The fastest non Oreca was the no22 United Autosports Ligier in 5th place after Phil Hanson recorded a 1m47.564, 1.2 seconds behind the leading G-Drive Oreca.

The LMP3 category saw a United Autosports 1-2 with the no3 Ligier of Matt Bell posting a 1m55.689 lap, nearly half a second ahead of Sean Rayhall in the no2 Nissan powered Ligier JS P3.  Third fastest was the no7 Ecurie Ecosse / Nielsen Ligier with Alex Kapadia setting a 1m56.212. The championship leading no15 RLR MSport Ligier was sixth fastest.

In the LMGTE class it was a Porsche 1-2 with the no86 Gulf Racing 911 of Ben Barker setting a 2m00.345 lap, 0.111s ahead of the no77 Proton Competition Porsche. Reigning champions JMW Motorsport were third quickest with Alex MacDowall setting a 2m00.886 lap in the Ferrari F488.

The second Free Practice session will take place later today at 14h45.
