By the Numbers: LMP3 Champions

LM P3 - 18/02/2019 - Jeff CARTER

As the countdown begins to the start of the 2019 European Le Mans Series season we take a look back at each of the champion’s 2018 campaign. We look at the season of the LMP3 champions, the no15 RLR MSport Ligier-Nissan of John Farano, Rob Garofall and Job Van Uitert.

The 2018 Season

Once again the LMP3 class featured a large, high quality grid with plenty of racing talent on display throughout the six 4-hour races. The goal for every team was to claim the coveted ELMS title and the automatic invitation to the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans to race in the LMP2 category.

British teams RLR MSport was the team to beat in 2018 but they faced plenty of strong opposition from United Autosports, Ecurie Ecosse / Nielsen, Inter Europol Competition, 360 Racing and EuroInternational. At the end of the season RLR MSport amassed 77.5 points, just 7.25 points ahead of their nearest rivals at the end of the season finale in Portugal.

19-year-old Dutch driver Job Van Uitert became one of the stars of the series in 2018 in his debut season in endurance.  Van Uitert posted the fastest lap of the race in Le Castellet and was consistently in the top 5 fastest drivers during each weekend. His British and Canadian teammates, Rob Garofall and John Farano were also able to step up to the mark at each race and the combination of their efforts resulted in three podiums, including two wins in Le Castellet and Red Bull Ring, and the 2018 ELMS LMP3 title.

In 2019 RLR MSport will contest both the LMP3 and also enter an LMP2 car in preparation for their entry for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.
