The final qualifying session of the 2014 European Le Mans Series season got underway this morning at the Estoril circuit , at 09h30 with GTE and GTC categories, it was followed but the LMP2 at 10h00.
Each of the 10 LMP2 full-season entries gave it everything to try and gain an advantage over their rivals at a sunny Estoril, and everything is in place for a top quality final race, with conditions being ideal.

Harry Tincknell claimed his fourth pole position of the season today in preparation for this afternoon's 4 Hours of Estoril, driving the No.38 JOTA Sport Zytek Z11SN Nissan with a lap of 1: 29.497, the fastest time of the weekend. He beat Tristan Gommendy who was at the wheel of the No.46 Ligier JS P2 of the Thiriet by TDS Racing team and who will join him on the front row of the grid. In third place was the Signatech Alpine No.36 Alpine A450b which was qualified by Nelson Panciatici, and he will be starting alongside the No.48 Murphy Prototypes ORECA 03R Nissan – that car in the hands of recent endurance recruit Pipo Derani. The fifth time fastest time was set by the No.43 Morgan Judd in the hands of Christian Klien (NewBlood by Morand Racing).
There will be five different chassis in the first five places on the starting grid for the 4 Hours of Estoril, and there have been four different winners from four races!
Who will rise to the top of the podium at Estoril; a fifth different team?
And who will take the laurels for the 2014 season?
Everything is possible, the teams and drivers are fired up and determined, and spectators are flocking to Estoril so as not to miss the start of the 4 Hours of Estoril which will be at 13h30 (14h30 CET).
Aston Martin Scoops First ELMS Pole of 2014
Birthday
boy Stuart Hall scored the first pole of the 2014 ELMS season in the no85 Gulf
Racing Aston Martin with a 1m37.269, just 0.096s ahead of the no66 JMW
Motorsport Ferrari of Daniel Zampieri. The LMGTE title contenders Matt
Griffin in the no55 AF Corse Ferrari and Andrea Bertolini in the no72 SMP
Racing Ferrari will line up for this afternoons 4 Hours of Estoril on the
second row of the grid in 3rd and 4th positions respectively.
In GTC Luca
Persiani in the no71 SMP Racing Ferrari 458 took the team's third pole of the
2014 season with a lap of 1m38.783, 0.091s ahead of the no98 ART GP McLaren of
Kevin Korjus. In
fact the top four places were filled by four different manufacturers – Ferrari,
McLaren, Porsche and BMW – underlining the incredible performance of the teams
and a balance of performance that is working very well.
Championship
leader Olivier Beretta in the no73 SMP Ferrari could only manage a lap of
1m39.495 and will start the race in 8th, three places behind their
GTC title rivals in the no60 Formula Racing Ferrari.
The teams and drivers will line up at 13:30 / 14:30 CET this afternoon for the start of the 4 Hours of Estoril for what promises to be an exciting finale to the 2014 season.
