MOTORSPORT QUESTIONS

Whether in ELMS or not, how was your 2014 season?

2014 was a year of transition as we knew early on that we were going to be racing an LMP2 in 2015. It was very difficult as we knew that competing in GTLM as a privateer is always difficult.

What did you do during the winter?

Since I have another full time job, I worked very hard and I also worked very hard on my physical conditioning as well.

What do you expect from the 2015 ELMS season?

I truly do not know what to expect! It is easy to expect winning, but winning at this level is very difficult, so I will expect to compete against great teams and drivers and learn a couple of tracks that we have not been to yet!

Do you know all the circuits on the 2015 schedule? Which one is your favourite?

Not yet! The team has not been to Paul Ricard or Red Bull Ring yet!

How do you prepare for a race weekend?

First, I have to make sure that my other business is prepared for my absence and then I have to get to the track on time and be well rested before practice and qualifying. Next, I have to come up to speed because this is not my primary profession. That requires seat time and lots of data. Last, I have to prepare mentally and try not to set personal expectations too high as I am often competing against the best drivers in the world.

Do you have a special ritual before the race? If yes, what is it ?

I have no special rituals before the race, but I do have a mental trigger that I utilize before I get in the car and that involves a very specific way that I put my helmet on!

What are the strengths of your team?

There are several team strengths that I would recognize! First is that we strive to do the very best preparation possible. Second, we continue to work on quality control. Third, we realize that we are indeed a team and that everyone is crucial to our success and must perform as well as possible.

What are the strengths of your co driver(s)?

Nic Jonsson has been my regular co-driver for over 10 years. He is my friend, my coach, and my mentor in this sport. It also helps that he has a degree in psychology. He is a superb driver and is an extraordinary professional athlete with the credentials to prove it! Oswaldo Negri has many of the same traits and has always been primarily a competitor, but has also always driven very clean and with great passion and, like Nic, is used to sharing driving duties with professional drivers that do not include racing as their primary profession. I have witnessed the improvement that John Pew has experienced with Ozz as his coach and mentor over the years!  Both Nic and Ozz are mature career professionals with nothing to prove and everything to gain by understanding what they need to contribute to their teammates to get the best result possible!

What is the race you want to take part in the most? And why?

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is always the race I want to participate in the most. It is a superb test of the car and the team. The fans are very knowledgeable and always they seem to truly enjoy the event. It is the one race I always look forward to and would like to continue to compete in as long as possible.

What has been your best result in motorsport? (which discipline, when, what circuit)

I think the best result(s) I have had in motorsport has been three podium finishes in GT class at Le Mans. The one important thing to note is that Nic Jonsson was a co-driver in each of those podium finishes.

HIS PERSONALITY

What is your greatest strength of character?

Perseverance! You can't achieve if you do not try and you have to be able to accept that failure also leads to success, but only if you persevere!

What is your worst weakness?

It is difficult to focus on racing when I have other things that require my attention. It is such a selfish sport!!

What is your favourite colour?

Krohn Green of course!!

What was the last book you have read?

Grand Prix: The Killer Years

What can we see on your bedside table?

French 1,2,3,4. I am trying!!

What is your favourite music?

There are only two kinds of music. Good music and bad music!  I am ‎a fan of nearly all genres of music including rap! Rap favorties include FloRida and Eminem! I also enjoy classical, rock, jazz, country and western.  I am more impressed with the beat and melody than the words

What your favourite flower / plant?

Orchids and roses are my favorite flowers. Orchids because they are so exotic and roses because they are so fragrant!

In which country would you like to live?

I am very fond of France because I enjoy good food, good wine, and beautiful women!  I truly believe in Joie de vivre!

If you were an animal which one would it be and why?

An Eagle…because you can survive on carrion, but once in a while you have to swoop down and kill something!!

If you were a person from History, which one would it be?

I would not want to trade places with any one that I know, but would perhaps choose to be a teacher that might be able to train politicians in the realities of economics because I believe that economic prosperity is the key to security and that hungry nations and people cannot possibly think rationally!

What is your life motto?

Be bold and accept failure as necessary for success!
