When some people hasten to announce that motor sport is passing away due to the financial crisis period, the number and quality of the 2009 Le Mans Series entry forms received is the best proof they are definitely misled! Once again, endurance racing gives evidence to be a promising sport. Being the new technology laboratory for the car manufacturers, the tyre providers or the oil companies is definitely the key to a serene future. The progresses in term of regulations, energy conservation and costs reductions are more than ever meaningful, and allow Le Mans Series to prepare an exceptional season.
First 2009 cards are laid down and interesting ones!
Actually, Audi has just announced that if they are not officially involved in the Le Mans Series, all the Audi Motorsport team will be there for the technical support of the R10s TDI bought from Audi by Dr Kolles to enrol them in the European Series. In 2006, after an experience in F1 through Midland, Colin Kolles has been involved in the DTM where he started a good relationship with Audi. Incidentally, Dr Ullrich, in the Audi official announcement, comments enthusiastically the promise of the R10's second life with a private team he knows very well.
This is first very good news for the series organisers who know now which other cards they will have to play for next year since the deadline for the season application is over. But the Selection Committee will only meet on forthcoming 26 January, and then no secret can be disclosed before.
