ELMS progress report Sunday 1st April 2nd hour : Greaves Motorsport leads the race

ELMS - 01/04/2012

Yelmer Buurman made a great start to the first round of the 2012 European Le Mans Series in his Lola-Judd coupe passing pole sitter Mathias Beche's Oreca 03-Nissan on the Mistral straight. The two drivers quickly opened up a gap over the rest of the field led by Tom Kimber-Smith in his Zytek Z11SN-Nissan, the reigning LM P2 category champion.

On lap 16, Pierre Kaffer's Oreca 03-Nissan tagged Jaime Melo's Ferrari F458, the LM GTE Pro leader, which he was lapping. Both cars continued.

On lap 25, the two leaders came in for their first refuelling stops. Beche's crew turned him around faster and he rejoined in the lead. The Status Grand Prix pit crew changed the tyres on the Lola and Buurman went out in the middle of the field.

While this was going on Tom Kimber-Smith went to the fore. After two hours racing, the Englishman is still in the lead followed by Buurman, who has fought his way back to the front, and Pierre Thiriet who has taken over from Beche.

In LM GTE Pro, the JMB Ferrari F458 Italia is currently in first place followed by the IMSA Matmut Performance and Prospeed Porsches.
