Ecurie Ecosse drivers are looking forward to Imola

ELMS - 17/05/2013

All British team EcurieEcosse won at home in Round 1 at Silverstone last month and will start in Imola at the head of the GTC Category which boasts a seven car grid for round 2 in Italy.

Ecurie Ecosse drivers Ollie Millroy and Andrew Smith are joined by Joe Twyman, who replaces Alasdair McCaig, in the BMW Z4 and both are lookingforward to the race in Imola.

You won the first ELMS round at Silverstone, what can say about your first win?

Ollie Millroy: "We had the new 2013 spec BMW for the team at Silverstone, and beside the fact that it was really wet, Andrew (Smith) and Alasdair (McCaig) did a great job in running the car in the very bad conditions we had. Most of my stint was behind the safety car…  It's a little annoying, as no one really wants to finish a race behind a safety car, nevertheless, we made it and we lead the championship in the category. We want to keep that pace and stay in front of our rivals."

What can you say about the Imola race track?

Ollie Millroy: "In fact I never raced at Imola before, so all of us  worked on the simulator to learnt it, we went around riding a bicycle and walking or running to get track knowledge… We have prepared very hard, and I am really looking forward to this race. Good driver friends of mine told me it's one of the best circuits in World, so I can't wait."

Andrew Smith: “This year is our first ELMS season, and the first time we drive a race with four different categories on the track. We have to fight with Prototypes, taking into account that they are much faster, brake harder in some corners and that we need to leave them the space to pass. It's a very interesting experience. At Silverstone I started the race on slicks, and it was my first proper run in the wet. I think I had the best part of the race. We decided to pit early to go onto wet tyres and it was definitely the right decision. That's team work too. Alasdair (McCaig) kept the car on the track at the worst time… he did a great job.

“Our goal with ELMS this year is to go back to Le Mans, which the team won in 1956 and 1957. We want to win the GTC category, get an entry to Le Mans next year. So far we are doing well to keep that direction.

“At Imola, the fight will be more difficult as we have many more cars around. We are very happy to have additional competitors but we will need to work even harder. The guys in the Ferraris are going to be quick, but that's what we like!”
