Nicolas Lapierre posted the best time with a 1m48.475 lap of the 5.8km Circuit Paul Ricard, 0.1s ahead of the no46 Thiriet by TDS Racing Oreca 05-Nissan of Mathias Beche. Reigning champions Greaves Motorsport were third quickest with Nathanael Berthon set a 1:48.906 lap in the Nissan powered Ligier JS P2. Championship leaders G Drive Racing were 4th quickest, 0.57 seconds behind the lead car. The top six in the LMP2 class were covered by less than 0.9 seconds.
In LMP3 it was a great debut for Nigel Moore and Phil Hanson in the Tockwith Motorsport Ligier, with Moore posting a 1m54.669 lap, over three tenths ahead of the second placed car, the no7 Villorba Corse Ligier of Giorgio Sernagiotto. The no16 Panis Barthez Competition Ligier was third quickest, just ahead of the current championship leaders in the no2 United Autosports Ligier-Nissan.
In LMGTE the pace was set by the no56 AT Racing Ferrari 458 Italia with Alessandro Pier Guidi setting the quickest lap of 1m58.080, just 0.027 seconds ahead of the Silverstone race winners in the no99 Aston Martin Racing Vantage, with Darren Turner setting the fastest time.
Thirty-nine cars took part in the practice session with the heavily damaged no33 Eurasia Motorsport Oreca05 still undergoing repairs following the accident in the Bronze Drivers Collective Test earlier this morning.
The second Free Practice session will take place tomorrow morning at 08h10 followed by qualifying at 12h50.
