Facts and Figures – 4 Hours of Estoril

The season finale of the 2015 European Le Mans Series will take place on Sunday 18 October at Estoril on Portugal. Situated near the Portuguese capital city Lisbon, this will be the second time that Estoril has hosted the championship decider. Here are some interesting facts and figures about the race and the region surrounding the circuit of Estoril
  • The fastest lap recorded at the 2014 4 Hours of Estoril was set by Harry Tincknell in the no38 JOTA Sport Zytek-Nissan with a lap of 1m29.497 during qualifying.  This was the only sub 1m30s lap during the whole event.
  • The fastest lap set during the race was by Brazilian Pipo Derani in the no48 Murphy Prototypes Oreca 03R - Nissan with a 1m32.854s lap (162.1kph)
  • The fastest LMGTE race lap was set by Ben Barker in the no86 Gulf Racing UK Porsche 911 RSR with a 1m39.370s lap
  • The fastest GTC lap was set by Luca Persiani in the no71 SMP Racing Ferrari F458 Italia GT3 with a lap of 1m40.145s
  • The winners completed 146 laps or 610.57km at the 2014 event.
  • Sir Chris Hoy and Charlie Robertson and Team LNT secured the inaugural European LMP3 title at Le Castellet with 3 wins from four races.
  • So far in 2015 the no41 Greaves Motorsport Gibson (LMP2) the no60 Formula Racing Ferrari (LMGTE), the no59 TDS Racing BMW (GTC) and the no62 AF Corse Ferrari (GTC) have all taken two wins each.
  • The no38 JOTA Sport Gibson Nissan, along with Simon Dolan, Filipe Albuquerque and Harry Tincknell are the only team to finish on the podium in all four races in 2015, including taking the win at Red Bull Ring (Austria), 1 x 2nd and 2 x 3rd place finishes.
  • The Estoril circuit was built in 1972
  • The current track layout is 4.182 km (2.599 mi) with 13 turns.
  • Niki Lauda won his third and final F1 World Title in 1984 finishing second to teammate Alain Prost at Estoril to secure the title by just 0.5 points.
  • Three times world champion Ayrton Senna took his very first F1 win in 1985 at Estoril.
  • The current outright lap record was set by Damon Hill in 1993 in Williams-Renault in a time of 1:14.859.
  • Cascais is a coastal town and a municipality in Portugal, 30 kilometres (19 miles) west of Lisbon.
  • The former fishing village gained fame as a resort for Portugal's royal family in the late 19th century and early 20th century.
  • Cascais is surrounded by popular beaches, such as Guincho Beach to the west, and the lush Sintra mountains to the north.
  • It is also becoming a popular golf destination, with over 10 golf courses nearby.
  • Surfing, sailing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing are also popular in the region around Cascais due to favourable weather, wind, and sea conditions. In 2007, Cascais was the official host of the ISAF World Championship in sailing for dinghies and racing yachts.
  • The famous Estoril Casino is one of the largest in Europe.
  • Near the casino is the "Hotel Palácio" (Palace Hotel), a 5-star hotel where scenes of the James Bond movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service were shot.
