Free Practice was interrupted by an early Full Course Yellow as cars went off track in the tricky conditions and the session was stopped in the final 30-minutes after three incidents happened on track at the same time. The marshals worked quickly to get the stranded cars back on track to allow the session to continue for the final 15 minutes.
The no24 Racing Engineering Oreca-Gibson of Norman Nato was the quickest car on track with the French driver setting a 2m19.745 on the very last lap of the session pushing the no31 APR-Rebellion Oreca of Gustavo Menezes into second place after the American had just set the fastest time the lap before on the drying 7km circuit. Menezes’ time of 2m20.715 was 0.5 seconds faster than the no21 Dragonspeed Oreca of Nico Lapierre.
Championship leaders G-Drive Racing were sixth fastest with a 2m23.142 lap.
The LMP3 category was headed by the no4 Cool Racing Ligier of Antonin Borga, the Swiss driver setting a 2m34.085, 0.499s ahead of the no13 Inter Europol Competition Ligier of Jakub Smiechowski. The no15 RLR M Sport Ligier of championship leaders Rob Garofall, John Farano and Job Van Uitert was sixth fastest with a lap of 2m35.703.
Matteo Cairoli put the championship leading no88 Proton Competition Porsche at the top of the LMGTE time sheets and his 2m31.555 lap was faster than the entire LMP3 grid, finishing the session 16th overall. It was a Porsche 1-2-3 in the wet conditions with the no77 Proton Competition 911 second fastest with a 2m34.147 lap, just a tenth ahead of the no80 Ebimotors Porsche.
The second Free Practice session for the European Le Mans Series will take place tomorrow morning at 09h05 CET.
