Five Minutes With....Martin Hippe

LM P3 - 20/07/2018 - Jeff CARTER

A good start to the 2018 ELMS season has seen Germany’s Martin Hippe and his Polish teammate Jakub Smiechowski score a 6th and 4th place LMP3 class finishes in the opening two rounds of the series at Le Castellet and Monza.

The no13 Inter Europol Competition Ligier-Nissan crew are currently lying in 5th place overall in the championship and are looking for their first podium of the year at the Red Bull Ring this weekend.

We caught up with Martin Hippe ahead of the first track session of the weekend in Austria.

Q: What are your thoughts on this Red Bull Ring circuit?

MH: “This is a nice country and nice landscape.  It is a challenging track, certainly not the easiest layout. It looks easy on the map but with the up and down, it is pretty challenging to find the right breaking point.  But I really like this track.”

Q: The competition in LMP3 is strong this season, what are your thoughts on the class of 2018?

MH: “Every year the competition is getting better and better.  It is good for us and we saw at Monza we were there.  With a bit more luck we can still fight for the win.”

Q: What is the goal this weekend?

MH: “We are aiming for the win but it is going to be difficult.  The realistic goal is a podium, which is really possible for us, but you never know what can happen on Sunday.  If everything works well then a win is possible but the podium is the target.”
