British drivers on the Silverstone ELMS grid in force!

ELMS - 11/04/2013

Among the 18 teams present on the starting grid for the first round of the 2013 ELMS will be six from Britain. There will also be no less than eight British drivers wishing to put on a good show for their home race.

Once again entered for both the European Le Mans Series and the FIA World Endurance Championship, English team Greaves Motorsport – based in Yaxley, near Peterborough – has every intention of coming out on top this weekend.  Throughout the offseason, the team has been preparing for the coming year and will field an LMP2 Zytek Z11 SN - Nissan in the ELMS. At this early stage it promises to be one of the biggest rivals to the current champions, Thiriet by TDS Racing from France. Another team which also ran last year in the ELMS, using a Zytek Z11 SN-Nissan, Jota Sport is the only 100% British team in LMP2.  Entrepreneur and owner of the Kent-based team, Simon Dolan, got the taste for endurance racing in a sports prototype after competing several times, among others events, at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He will have the support this year of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes test driver, Oliver Turvey, whose ambitions are certainly to fight for overall victory. A third Briton, John Hartshorne, will also be entered in the LMP2 class in Belgian team Boutsen Ginion Racing's ORECA 03 Nissan alongside two French drivers.

Five Union Jack bearers will be spread through the LMGTE grid. Ram Racing, with its two Ferrari F458 Italias No. 52 and 53, will feature amongst its driver line up multi-race winner Johnny Mowlem (24 Hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring, 24 Hours of Le Mans, 1000 km of Nürburgring), while the German team Proton Competition has been granted the services of young Bedford-based Porsche factory driver Nicholas Tandy for the first round of the 2013 ELMS.

And there are even more in the new GTC category! Ecurie Ecosse continues its revival and competition comeback, begun last year.  This year, it is running the only BMW Z4 which will line up on the starting grid for the 3 Hours of Silverstone. At the wheel will be three British drivers: Ollie Millroy, a winner in Formula BMW, Andrew Smith, who raced in the 2012 Blancpain series with Millroy, and son of Ecurie Ecosse's owner, Alasdair McCaig, who finished third in the 2012 British GT Championship.
