Season review with Nathanaël Berthon, Greaves Motorsport n°41

ELMS - 15/11/2016

Nathanaël Berthon raced for Greaves Motorsport at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans and competed for the British team for the rest of the season in European Le Mans Series alongside Memo Rojas and Julien Canal. The 2016 season is the third for Nathanaël in ELMS; he drove for Irish team Murphy Prototype in 2014 and 2015.

What did you think of your 2016 season?

The 2016 season was not easy for me but really rewarding regarding my experience. I joined Greaves Motorsport for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and I’m really grateful for that. The team didn’t know the Ligier JS P2 and so do I. I think we did a good job all together, but we suffered some bad luck, especially concerning mechanical issues.

From my side, this season was a recovery, I have new management and I worked a lot on myself. I am better prepared and I feel good mentally to start the 2017 season.

How was your integration with the Greaves Motorsport team?

I think that I was lucky to be in a team that is like a family and to have two great teammates. Both with Julien (Canal) and Memo (Rojas) we created strong bonds and it was our strength this year. I had no troubles to integrate into the team even if I started at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and that the team already did races and tests before.

What are the up and down of your season?

I don’t really like to talk about negative stuff but I felt bad after my contract breach with G-Drive Racing at the beginning of the season. I was lucky to have people like Renaud Derlot, Olivier Panis and my family to support me; they helped me to rebound.

The rest of the season was really positive, even if the overall results could have been better. We were often the most competitive of the Ligiers, for example a 10th position in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the first Ligier.

My biggest fulfilment is to have helped the team in its global performance which kept improving, such as the car, all year long.

What are your projects for 2017?

I have several opportunities but it’s too soon to talk about it. What I can say is that I will now focus on the Trophée Andros that takes place this winter and I really like it.
