Berthon Scores LMP2 Pole for Murphy while SMP Take Double in GTE and GTC

In a thrilling qualifying session for the 4 Hours of Paul Ricard the no48 Murphy Prototypes Oreca Nissan of Nathanael Berthon took pole position, breaking JOTA Sport's 100% record in qualifying this season. It was Harry Tincknell in the no38 JOTA Sport Zytek-Nissan that pushed Berthon all the way to the chequered flag but as soon as the Englishman took the upper hand, the French driver would respond with a faster lap. The final lap of 1m47.837 was 0.2 faster than the pole time at last year's race.

Christian Klien in the no43 Newblood by Morand Racing Morgan-Judd was third fastest and will line up alongside the no34 Race Performance Oreca-Judd on row 2. Championship leaders Signatech Alpine will head row three.

In LMGTE Andrea Bertolini scored his third pole of 2014 for SMP Racing, the Italian's Ferrari 458 finishing 0.196 seconds ahead of the no80 Kessel Racing Ferrari of Giacomo Piccini. Championship leader Matt Griffin will head row 2 in the no55 AF Corse Ferrari, just 0.22s behind Bertolini and 0.099s ahead of Adam Carroll in the no86 Gulf Racing Porsche 911 RSR.

In GTC it was all smiles in the SMP Racing garage as Luca Persiani scored his second pole for the team in the no71 Ferrari 458 Italia GT3, finishing the 20-minute session 0.177 ahead of Kevin Korjus in the no98 ART Grand Prix McLaren MP4. The no95 AF Corse Ferrari of Cedric Sbirrazzuoli will start this afternoon's race behind the SMP Racing Ferrari and alongside the n78 Team Russia by Barwell BMW Z4.

The 4 Hours of Paul Ricard, the penultimate round of the 2014 European Le Mans Series, will start at 13h00 (local) and the race will be streamed live at www.europeanlemansseries.com and across Europe on MotorsTV.
