LM P2 - 10/10/2019 - Jeff CARTER
Hanley, alongside teammates James Allen and Henrik Hedman, got his 2019 ELMS campaign off to a great start with a win in the 4 Hours of Le Castellet. Things have not gone their way since then but a pole position at his home race at Silverstone was another highlight of the 2019 season.
The DragonSpeed team are now aiming to finish the season as they started with a win in the final race, the 4 Hours of Portimão.
We caught up with Ben Hanley ahead of the final race of the 2019 season to find out his thoughts on the season so far and the event in Portugal.
“We’re going to approach the event in Portimão the same as normal”, said Ben Hanley. “We’re always aiming for the podium, that’s our goal, but it’s tricky. The LMP2 field is so deep now, with 16 or 17 cars and I think there are only three bronze drivers in there. At every race we are at the front of the bronzes, so that’s good but at the same time we want more.
“We showed we can win in the first race this year, so we have the speed to win, we just need to have a clean race”, Hanley continued. “We just seem to be missing the Full Course Yellows for our pitstops, we just seem to miss it by a lap. If things fall our way, we’ll be back at the sharp end of the field.
“I really like the track at Portimão. It’s tricky in the traffic, so it’s pretty busy there in the race. Hopefully we can have a clean race and come through for a good result.”
