Aston Martin Racing: the Lord of the Ring!

ELMS - 23/08/2009

Aston Martin Racing fully achieved its goal: the British team scored as many points as possible and could take the lead of the series thanks to today's victory. Indeed, the pre-race four-point gap could seem very hard to fill and victory was the only option today to keep the team chances alive for the title chase, and obviously, the team used the necessary resources to achieve its aim. No less than three cars raced this weekend and will race at Silverstone, the last round of the season, which shows how important the title is for Aston Martin Racing.

The result is actually beyond the team's expectation, as Stefan Mücke said: “This is my home race, so this is a great result. The team did a very good job and we had no problem. The track was tricky today because of traffic, but everything went perfectly. That is a fantastic result because we now have a seven point lead.” The British team could only partly take control of its destiny, and had to expect a poor performance from Team Pescarolo Sport. Obviously, luck was on the British side today because the French team had a gear-box problem and had to retire.

Quifel-ASM Team is a stronger leader than ever in the LMP2 class and demonstrated this weekend that the Ginetta-Zytek is now a reliable and very fast car. The team has ruled the class for the whole weekend and was clearly the fastest LMP2 car on the track. At the same time, Racing Box is still in the race for the title at the end of the season with #29 car, taking second place today, even if the task won't be easy at Silverstone because of a nine-point gap. OAK Racing can celebrate its third podium of the season, which rewards the team effort and hard work. Because of many mechanical problems, the French team's season has not been flawless and third place probably tastes like a victory for Matthieu Lahaye and Karim Ajlani.

Team Ibanez Racing Service has been awarded the Michelin Green X Challenge as the best performer able to use the least amount of fuel.

Larbre Compétition and Team Felbermayr-Proton distinguished themselves

With only one race left in the Series, Team Luc Alphand Aventures secured the title in the GT1 class today despite second place. Indeed, the Larbre Compétition Saleen finished on the first step of the podium, which should help the team in its quest for second place of the Series, synonymous with an invitation for the next 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The German race has been much more flawless for Team Felbermayr-Proton and its Porsche than the Portuguese one, and by far! Started third on the grid, Marc Lieb and Richard Lietz posted an outright victory in the Eifel Mountains and could so regain the lead of the Series. Unfortunately, Team Snoras Spyker and Team FBR could not contest the victory but their final standing is quite unexpected, as this is the first podium of the season for both Dutch and German teams.

No time to breathe with the support races

Yesterday, Jens Klingmann and Andreas Wirth took the victory in the first race of the ADAC GT Masters but could unfortunately not repeat the success this morning, and Marc Hennerici and Luca Ludwig replaced them on the first step of the podium. In Race 2 of the Radical European Masters, there are also new winners with the pair Cameron MacDonald and Nigel Greensall.

The situation is totally different for Gavin Cronje and Nico Verdonck who won again in the Formula Le Mans Cup, as well as Daniel Abt, in Race 2 of ADAC Formel Masters.

Then in Classic Endurance Racing, Jean-Marc Luco and his Porsche keep on to go alone, with their fourth victory in a row, winning the series before the final race.

The next round of the Le Mans Series will be at Silverstone on Sunday 13 September.
