Andre Lotterer on home turf

ELMS - 07/05/2011

Andre Lotterer, who was second quickest in qualifying for the Spa-Francorchamps 1000 kms in the no. 2 Audi R18 TDI, is racing on the Belgian circuit almost as if he were on home turf.  Since he was a kid, the young German has often spectated at the famous track in the Ardennes. Now he is driving here and he is determined to show his talent.

Lotterer was second in qualifying and just missed out on pole for the Spa-Francorchamps 1000 kms, the first race for the Audi R18 TDI. “I'm a bit disappointed as I had the pace to score pole. I wasn't very lucky with traffic and I had to slow in several places. But the overall result is very positive for Audi and we're looking good for the race,” he said.

Lotterer races under a German licence although he grew up in Belgium where he foliowed in the footsteps of his father, a former racer who is no longer alive. So the Spa-Francorchamps circuit holds no secrets for the Audi driver. “I attended the Spa-Francorchamps 24 Hours on numerous occasions. I love this track and I feel at home. It's a special event for me as a lot of my friends are here.”

A win in front of his ‘virtual' home crowd would be a great reward for the 29-year-old Lotterer who has already proved his talent in racing, particularly in Japan (Super GT and Formula Nippon). “We're preparing for Le Mans, but we're also aiming for victory and we have the potential to win here.”
