ELMS - 08/03/2013
The French Alpine marque announced on Friday 8th March its return to endurance through the LMP2 category. Alpine has chosen to prepare itself for the greatest endurance race in the world with the Signatech team of Philippe Sinault and Didier Calmels, which is entered for a full seasonwith the European Le Mans Series and already registered on the list of entries for the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans.
After the announcement by Renault last November of the creation of a new company, the Société des Automobiles Alpine-Caterham, and pending the sale of its first cars in 2016, a new turn has been taken today with the announcement of an Alpine entry in endurance racing.
To make this happen, Alpine has joined up with Signatech who will enter an Alpine LMP2 prototype chassis, powered by a 500 bhp Nissan engine, in the five rounds of the ELMS. The kickoff will be at Silverstone (GB) on April 13, and the drivers will be Nelson Panciatici and Pierre Ragues.
Gérard Neveu, ELMS Director:"We are very pleased to see the return of such a major name, and that it is coming to the European Le Mans Series. The entry of a prototype, powered by a major manufacturer and carrying a great name in endurance racing, follows the direction of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest's declared strategy. It will also, without doubt, benefit the re-launch of the European Le Mans Series.”
